GP Remote Home Working and Emails


The service was initially set up to support GPs and key practice personnel who were self isolating, ‘shielding’ or in an ‘at risk’ group and required continued emergency access to practice IT systems from their personal computers.


Feedback has been extremely positive and we are now evaluating feasibility options to enable this service to continue going forward.


The GP Remote Desktop Service has been set up to support GPs and key practice personnel who may be self-isolating and require continued emergency access to their IT systems from home computers. 

A full service description is attached for your information. To date, 1105 user accounts have been set up and are starting to use this service. 

If you would like access to this service, please complete the ‘GP Remote Service Request’ form and get it back to the GPICT mailbox at your earliest convenience.
Please note that once the practice has been enabled it is essential that individual users complete the activation process within 24 hours.


Working from Home

We now have a solution that allows Practice staff to gain emergency access to their practice-based computer from a home computer or device.

This will initially be made available to the following priority groups:

  • Individuals who are self-isolating and have no other means of accessing their work systems
  • Practices who are in the Covid19 Hot Spots.

Access can be provided very quickly once the request is received from the Practice Manager.

Available on this page is a form (under 'Related Content'), that is needed for the Primary Care Services team to collect the information required to set up your user account access. Please complete and get back to the mailbox and we shall work through these as quickly as possible. You must submit your request from an email account. Due to our capacity to process requests and to support the practices that are in most need, we kindly request that only staff in the priority groups above are requested at this time. We know the situation is fast moving and we are building a flexible team approach which will respond to individual user requests.

GPs can continue to purchase NHS Wales managed laptops via the Dell portal, however please be aware that we have been advised that Dell are currently experiencing high demand so there may be a delay in the supply of new equipment.
