Director of Information and Communications Technology

Carwyn has extensive experience in healthcare technology, and has led on infrastructure design for NHS Wales since 2006. Prior to his appointment as Director of ICT, in his role as Head of Infrastructure Services and Design, his work encompassed an operational function covering networks, data centres, development and support of national business applications and the hosting of national clinical systems.
 
Before joining the NHS in 2002, Carwyn worked for British Steel and Cisco Systems. Previously, Carwyn had graduated from Swansea University with a first class honours degree in electronics and computer science, followed by a doctorate in engineering.
 
Born in Ceredigion and now living near Cardiff, Carwyn is bi-lingual and has special interest in ensuring that health and care IT systems reflect patients’ language
